THE CAMIGUIN TOURISM CODE OF ETHICS
- Promote mutual understanding and respect of cultural values, beliefs and traditions of the local community in line with the existing laws.
- Consider the values of the local people before introducing tourism activities to prevent culture shock and degradation.
- Ensure proper orientation, preventive information and protection of tourist by local public authorities and other tourism service providers.
- Always observe appropriate behavior. Abstain from any conduct felt to be offensive and destructive to the local population and environment.
- Promotes holistic experience for self education and learning of peoples and cultures.
- Promote human rights, children rights, equality and gender sensitivity.
- Strengthen the integration of the value and benefits of tourism into the school curricula.
- Abide with all environmental laws for tourism development. Safeguard the natural environment by insuring proper waste disposal, saving all forms of energies, rare and precious resources, and preserving endangered species.
- Ensure preservation of cultural and historical sites and structures.
- Encourage revenues for development and management of these heritage sites.
- Preserve and promote traditional cultural products.
- Utilize the services of the local population for employment in the tourism industry.
- Ensure the conduct of consultation with the local population to be affected by tourism development.
- Ensure competencies of host communities to provide tourist with objective, adequate, honest and clear information on the following:
- places of destination
- conditions of travel
- accommodation
- price and quality of the services
- laws and policies
- security and safety measures
- health protection
- accident prevention
- suitable systems insurance and assistance
- Ensure quality service through the standardization of frontline tourism services i.e. tour guiding, transport, porterage, etc.
- Ensure responsible media through accurate, honest, transparent, reliable and balanced media information.
- Ensure the welfare of the tourism stakeholders and service providers with their rights, compensation and benefits in accordance with the DOLE provisions and National Wage Board.
- Cooperate with the stakeholders for an effective implementation and monitoring of above principles.
These are the values we are trying to promote in Camiguin for both tourists and the locals.
